The Junior Development Program is intended as an introduction to developmental figure skating. The goal of the program is to develop strong basic figure skating skills so that the skater may pass their preliminary levels of skating and compete figure skating competitions. Team coaching, jump technique, spins, off-ice, specialized dance classes, games and prizes are all part of the program. It combines a fun and enthusiastic atmosphere to learn the basic skills of figure skating at a young age.
The Junior Development Program is designed to be a bridge between the CanSkate program and the Skate Canada StarSkate program. Our LSC coaches have developed a strong curriculum of figure skating skills. Skaters in this program will receive progress reports and developmental opportunities.
Coaching is included for all sessions. Skaters wishing to join Junior Academy Program must demonstrate competent skill level for their age, and must be accessed by a club coach. Skaters will also be talent-identified and selected from the CanSkate program.
Program Requirements: Equipment and Attire Figure skaters are required to dress athletically and appropriately for their sessions. Skaters must wear tights and yoga jacket type clothing. Hair must be neatly tied back and out of the face. *No baggy clothing (hoodies, winter jackets, jeans are unacceptable). Skaters who do not come dressed appropriately may not be able to participate for safety reasons.
Prerequisites: Program participation is by invitation only. Skaters must skate two days a week to participate in Junior Development.
At The Langley Skating Club we focus on providing high quality skating programs with instruction from dedicated Skate Canada certified coaches. We encourage skaters to develop to the best of their ability and achieve their goals, in a supportive club setting while fostering a passion for the sport of skating. We believe that empowering skaters with confidence, skill, and a strong work ethic promotes personal success.
